Decline in phosphorus levels in Lake Geneva: 50 years of effort rewarded
In the 1960s and 1970s, swimming was prohibited in certain areas of Lake Geneva due to the poor quality of the water, which had been severely eutrophied by excess phosphorus from human activities.
Today, after 50 years of effort, phosphorus concentrations have reached their lowest level since 1979. This is a cross-border success story worth celebrating.
