Lake Geneva players meet
A renewed commitment to Lake Geneva 🤝
On Tuesday, November 7, CIPEL held an important meeting in Nyon, bringing together a wide range of key players from the Lake Geneva region, all committed to the sustainable preservation of Lake Geneva and its watershed. 💧
Around a hundred players from a wide range of backgrounds, including researchers, elected representatives, local authorities, institutional bodies, environmental associations and users of Lake Geneva, pooled their expertise and perspectives during this constructive and dynamic dialogue.
📖 This meeting was an opportunity to present CIPEL's 2021-2030 ten-year action plan, which is made up of 29 actions spread across the areas of governance, communication and science. It focuses on three fundamental axes: securing Lake Geneva's water resources, improving water quality and aquatic habitats, and developing strategies for adapting to climate change.
The main aim of the meeting was to identify synergies between the participants' projects and future CIPEL actions, while strengthening mutual collaboration. CIPEL bears a major responsibility for preserving water quality, particularly in the face of challenges such as micropollutants, microplastics, invasive species, algal blooms and the effects of climate change.
🚰 It is also essential to guarantee the inhabitants of the watershed access to sufficient, good-quality drinking water, as well as fishing, boating and leisure activities such as swimming and water sports.
In the face of these major challenges facing water quality management, CIPEL's mission is becoming more crucial than ever. 👆
The fruitful exchanges also gave rise to equally conclusive informal discussions. The dynamic interactions between the stakeholders of Lake Geneva and CIPEL underlined the need to work together to respond appropriately to the challenges facing Lake Geneva in the future.
CIPEL welcomes the commitment shown by all participants and looks forward to the positive results that will flow from this strengthened collaboration.
In conclusion, this morning's discussions vividly demonstrated the diversity and richness of the initiatives undertaken in favor of Lake Geneva. 👏
