New limnological bulletin for Lake Geneva - Winter 2024-2025

CIPEL has just published its latest limnological bulletin for winter 2024-2025. This document highlights significant changes in the temperature of Lake Geneva, with surface waters showing an average of +1.02°C compared with the reference period. Deep waters also show a notable rise of +0.88°C, underlining a worrying warming trend.

Moreover, although winter mixing has helped reoxygenate surface waters, deep waters continue to suffer from hypoxia.

This quarterly bulletin, rich in data and analysis, also provides information on water transparency and chlorophyll a concentrations, key indicators of the quality of the aquatic environment.
