cipel_cdp_2015_couvEvery year, the CIPEL publishes a map of the beaches showing the cleanliness of the water at each of the beaches of Lake Geneva. The classification of the beaches is based on the bacteriological analyses carried out during the previous bathing season. The decisive health-related criterion is bacterial hygiene. Chemical pollution of the Lake is low, and does not pose any risk to bathers.

The competent services of each canton and département are responsible for monitoring the health quality of the bathing water. If a beach is temporarily polluted for some particular reason, the authorities inform the population. The beaches of Lake Geneva are virtually all suitable for bathing.
